Fleet telemetry platform
Kestrel Haulage — 2024
MQTT ingestion, time-series storage and a live map for a haulage fleet, plus driver scorecards.
- Result
- 1,200 vehicles streaming live data
- Timeline
- 18 weeks

The challenge
Vehicle trackers reported into three vendor portals that did not talk to each other, so nobody had a single view of the fleet or fuel behaviour.
What we did
- Built a vendor-agnostic MQTT ingestion service normalising every device payload.
- Stored telemetry in a time-series database with rollups for long-range queries.
- Created a live map plus historic playback for any vehicle and date range.
- Derived driver scorecards from harsh braking, idling and speed events.
The outcome
- 1,200 vehicles reporting into one platform.
- Idling time reduced measurably in the first two quarters.
- Insurance reporting produced from real event data instead of estimates.
